        WHAT TO KNOW
        • Rain showers develop around noon and could mix in with snowflakes. Temperatures are too warm for accumulation this afternoon
        • A break from precipitation this evening, then plain snow showers are possible overnight.
        • Up to 1 inch of snow is possible, with a narrow band of higher accumulations possible, favoring Nassau County.
Rain will mix with a few snow showers this afternoon. Snow showers are expected tonight with accumulation possible. Prepare for minor snow accumulations overnight tonight. A weak storm will bring scattered light rain this afternoon, which could mix with some snowflakes. The storm strengthens off the coast this evening and although the majority of the storm will remain off the coast, a narrow band of snow is expected overnight that will bring accumulations. This makes for a tricky forecast, but here's our latest thinking for Long Island.
        SLIPPERY SATURDAY:
        • Snow showers are expected overnight into Saturday morning. This could reduce visibility in spots early on Saturday morning.
        • Accumulations will mainly be in the 1/2 inch to 1 inch range, but a narrow band of snow is expected and could bring higher totals for Nassau County. Right now our best model guidance keeps that narrow band over NJ.
Behind this storm is bitter cold and sunshine. Sunday and Monday will remain below freezing with morning temperatures only in the teens. It will feel even colder with wind chill values near 0 F in the morning and below 10 F for much of the day.
Another storm will develop for Christmas Eve. At this time there's low confidence in widespread precipitation, but rain or a mix of rain and snow is possible. Christmas Day and beyond looks dry and pleasant.
TODAY: Mostly cloudy with rain showers likely in the afternoon. Some may mix with snow. High near 40.
TONIGHT: Snow flurries and snow showers. A trace to 1 inch of snow is expected. Lows near 30.
SATURDAY: Morning snow showers likely, then windy with sun and clouds. Highs in the mid-30s, feels like mid-20s. Overnight lows in the mid-teens but feels like 5 degrees.
SUNDAY: Very cold with sun and clouds. Highs in mid-20s, lows in the mid-10s.
