It's been an incredibly mild start to the week, but today is the last day before winter makes a very noticeable return.
Today is mostly cloudy with high temperatures in the mid 60s away from the Long Island Sound. Winds are relatively light, from the south at 10 mph. A stray shower is possible after 3 PM through the evening.
Rain is expected tonight, although it will be spotty. A rumble of thunder is possible with a few downpours on Thursday morning. Temperatures are in the mid-50s tomorrow morning.
Thursday afternoon will be interesting. A blast of cold air drops temperatures into the 40s and upper 30s after lunchtime and any lingering precipitation will fall as sleet or snow. Temperatures should remain above freezing, but a coating of snow is possible.
The rest of the week is seasonable with morning temperatures in the 30s and highs in the 40s or near 50. Another storm arrives Sunday evening which will warm temperatures up with another plunge of arctic air returning next Tuesday.
