After a record-breaking warm day in the Hudson Valley yesterday (we hit 79 degrees, breaking the previous record of 77 degrees in 2016), temps will still be above average for today but not as warm as yesterday.
A system will be moving towards the region over the course of the next 24 hours, bringing an increase in cloud cover. A southeasterly breeze off the cooler Atlantic Ocean waters and Long Island Sound, which will help to keep the temps a little lower compared from yesterday. The record high for today is 68 degrees (1977). The forecast high is 69 degrees. If we get more sunny breaks, we could see those temps going well above the record.
The shower chances will be spotty to scattered through the midday hours but could increase later today. Later this evening, and into the overnight hours, that shower potential will increase as a cold front approaches.
The high temperature for Thursday will happen before sunrise, as cooler air will be rushing in with the front passing by during the morning hours. A change over from rain to a wintry mix to snow showers will occur from the morning to midday hours. Big, slushy snowflakes may accumulate on grassy surfaces, with main roads likely to be wet. Roads will be slick through as the showers come down. Breezy winds will move throughout the rest of the day. Temperatures will feel chilly, especially compared to how it has been recently.
Looking ahead, another system is in sight for overnight Sunday into Monday. That one will be a large storm system, bringing rain to the region for Monday but with a big drop in temperatures for Tuesday. We'll see highs go from the 60s to the 30s in a matter of 24 hours. Ouch!
