The Port Authority Police Department has released new information about a man accused of attacking a woman with a knife at Newark Liberty International Airport on Sunday afternoon.
A Port Authority police source tells News 12 New Jersey that Jin Xiong arrived at the airport in a NYC yellow taxi at 4:41 p.m. at Terminal A. The source says that Xiong was seen on security camera walking around the airport for several minutes without interacting with anyone, before allegedly attacking the woman about eight minutes later.
Officials say that the victim was slashed on the face and is expected to be OK.
The Port Authority source says that Xiong is homeless, but he was not staying in the terminal and was not known to the Port Authority’s homeless advocates as needing services.
Xiong was charged with aggravated assault and unlawful possession of a weapon. He is being held at the Essex County Jail.
