Police are urging soccer fans to be aware of the signs of human trafficking during the FIFA World Cup.

Authorities say the next few weeks are critical.

FIFA released in 2024 some guidelines they called a human rights framework for host committees.

Some of the ways to combat human trafficking include:

"They know how to cover their tracks, both in the trafficking itself, but also the money movements, and so they are very sophisticated groups," says Craig Timm, senior director of the Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists (ACAMS).

"We come together collectively so that we have the resources in place when we encounter victims because we are expecting with this type of large-scale event that we will encounter victims of sex and labor trafficking," says Alia El-Sawi, victim assistance specialist of Homeland Security Investigations.

Authorities say because many states are hosting games, it adds an extra layer of complexity for law enforcement.
