The Steve Benko Pool at Waveny Park in New Canaan is set to reopen today after an unusual accident forced officials to close it last week.

The incident happened last Tuesday when a Tesla accidentally drove into the pool. Town officials said the driver was attempting to park but mistook the accelerator, sending the vehicle into the water.

Lifeguards on duty quickly helped rescue the driver. No serious injuries were reported.

The pool was then closed so crews could drain it and assess any damage. Cleanup and repairs were completed in the following days, clearing the way for reopening.

Town officials said they are relieved the incident did not result in more serious harm and are looking forward to welcoming visitors back.
