Sledgehammer-wielding man accused of trying to break down 77-year-old’s door in North Bellmore

Further investigation revealed that the victim had an order of protection against the man.

A Bellmore man was arrested for attempting to break down a resident’s door with a sledgehammer on Thursday, according to police.
Authorities say they received a 911 call from the 77-year-old victim around 5 p.m. in North Bellmore.
Police were told that he and 34-year-old Jason Franco got into a verbal argument, which escalated as Franco began to strike the bedroom door with the sledgehammer.
Police say Franco became violent and injured two officers during his arrest. Both he and the officers were hospitalized.
Further investigation revealed that the victim had an order of protection against him.
News 12 asked police about the relationship between the two but did not hear back.
The charges against Franco include assault, criminal possession of a weapon, criminal mischief, criminal contempt, obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest.
He is scheduled to be arraigned Friday at First District Court in Hempstead.
