An unsettled and disruptive weather pattern is ahead for New York City.
Showers and a stray storm are expected to arrive overnight, but they don't look to be major aside from some brief bursts of rain. A gusty thunderstorm or two is possible into the early parts of Wednesday. Wednesday will be very similar to what we had for Tuesday - warm temps, a largely dry day, and better rain chances as we head into the later evening and overnight.
We remain soggy for the overnight hours into early Thursday, which is where the disruptiveness could factor in. Steady rain with downpours is possible during the early morning commute. Since we've been mostly dry for a while, buildup on our roads is possible from oil and dirt, leading to slippery conditions once decent rain starts. There will be more rain on the way for Thursday evening and with a better chance for some thunderstorms and potentially some isolated severe weather. We will continue to monitor as this unsettled period continues.
Temperatures dive back to the lower 70s on Thursday after a couple of days of pushing 80. We rebound in temperatures in the upper 70s to finish out the work week and head into the weekend.
We are still dealing with high rip currents through Wednesday night. We continue to monitor the Atlantic and Hurricane Gabrielle, currently a Category 4 hurricane. Gabrielle continues to move away from us. We are also keeping an eye on two areas of disturbance in the Atlantic that, as of right now, have no impact on our area.
OVERNIGHT: Stray shower or storm should finish by early Wednesday.
WEDNESDAY: Early morning rain, stray showers throughout. Rain returns late. Highs in the upper 70s, lows in the upper 60s.
THURSDAY: Rainy and stormy. Highs in the low 70s, lows in the upper 60s.
FRIDAY: Morning rain, mostly cloudy. Highs in the upper 70s, lows in the mid-60s.
WEEKEND: Rainy first half, with drying out by the second half. Highs in the upper 70s, lows in the mid- to lower 60s.
