Senior riders in Edenwald say they are missing their bus stop along Boston Road.
Two years ago, the MTA announced plans to redesign the Bx30 local route to improve reliability and bus speeds. This included removing stops like at Grace Avenue and Boston Road. Without this stop, there are four to five blocks between the existing Bx30 bus stops at Baychester Avenue or East 224th Street. It may not sound like a long walk, but older riders tell News 12 that for them every block counts.
News 12's crews spoke to multiple riders who say they would prefer routes with high rates of senior riders to have more frequent stops with shorter walks. Some riders also suggested removing another stop and bringing back the Grace Avenue location because of its access to crucial services like local supermarket, Palm Tree Marketplace.
The MTA told News 12 in a statement: "The Bronx is one of the most bus-dependent boroughs within New York City, and in the two years since the redesign went into effect, thousands of daily riders have seen increased bus speeds, more service and better connections within the Bronx and to Manhattan."
News 12 inquired further about suggestions from riders to return to the Grace Avenue bus stop and will update when new information is received.
