WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
A storm system will be moving towards the Northeast through the day today, and the Hudson Valley will see rain moving in later this afternoon into the evening hours.
Rain showers will be light at first with a few rounds of moderate rainfall for this evening and into the overnight hours.
This storm system will bring breezy winds at times as well, but strong gusts are not expected.
Temperatures will be holding steady in the upper 40s to low 50s overnight as milder air comes along with the rain.
Temperatures will peak for the week on Wednesday, with highs into the upper 50s to low 60s.
But once the system's cold front passes late Wednesday into Thanksgiving, temperatures will start dropping.
Highs will go from the 60s to the 40s. And along the way, chilly air will be flowing down as well. This will make Thanksgiving feel blustery. Layers may be needed if heading to the Thanksgiving Parade in the city.
While Wednesday is traditionally the busiest travel time of the year, travel troubles may start to mount tonight as the system brings rain into the region. The roadways this evening could have ponding on them, and that lingering water may be an issue for the Wednesday morning rush.
Thanksgiving day itself will be a cold day with highs into the low to mid 40s. Factor in gusty winds around 20-30 MPH, and the temps will feel into the 30s. For the parade's balloons, they cannot fly in gusty winds. The threshold is sustained winds cannot be higher than 23 MPH and gusts can not be higher than 34 MPH. The gusts will be close to that, but the balloons will likely still fly. They will probably be held lower to the ground though than under normal conditions.
Black Friday has the gusty winds linger through the day along with a chill in the air. But at least the weather will be dry through the day and into the weekend. Temperatures will be trending cold Saturday under mostly sunny skies with Sunday seeing a slight temperature bump with a mix of sun and clouds to follow. Early next week has rain returning into the region as well as with an "see-saw" like temperature trend.
