A year ago, a bus crashed into a building at the intersection of Rogers and Clarkson avenues in Prospect-Lefferts Gardens.

Now, News 12 returns to investigate whether residents still feel the roads are safe.

The businesses affected by the crash have since closed, and residents shared their concerns about traffic safety in the area.

In May 2023, a bus collided with another vehicle, veered onto the sidewalk and crashed into a building. While no fatalities resulted from that crash, the intersection saw a tragic incident last October when a cyclist was killed after being struck by a truck near a school.

One resident noted the dangers for children in the area, especially in large groups.

“You got to look out for the kids because they won’t be paying attention,” the resident said, adding that they often witness children narrowly avoiding accidents.

Pedestrians have expressed concern about navigating the busy intersection.

“They still walk in front of cars,” another resident said. “Of course, the driver is going to get upset because they have to slow down, and everyone is wondering, who’s going to win?”

This year, there have been no fatalities at the intersection, although six people were injured in car-related accidents.

“If it’s up to me, I’m going to let the car be the winner," said one person.

Many residents say a crossing guard would improve safety during school hours, as they feel drivers frequently disregard traffic laws.

“It gets very busy in all four directions,” one person said. “I hope someone figures it out before anyone else gets hurt.”

Though the intersection remains a concern, residents continue to push for solutions to prevent further accidents.

A Department of Transportation spokesperson says small speed bumps were added at the corners of the intersection to reduce turning speeds.
