A violent felon from Ridge has been sentenced to 20 years to life in prison for robbing a Yaphank gas station at gunpoint and leading police on a high-speed chase.

The Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office says 28-year-old Marion Maupin entered the Shell gas station with an accomplice on Jan. 24 of 2025.

His accomplice acted as a lookout by the door as Maupin pointed a loaded gun to the clerk’s head and stole cash from the register.

The duo fled the scene in a white Cadillac. Police officers later noticed the vehicle in Bellport and attempted to conduct a traffic stop.

Police say the vehicle sped off, leading them on a 15-minute pursuit that reached over 100 mph at times.

Officers saw Maupin and his accomplice abandon the vehicle while it was still in motion and throw a gun into a nearby yard.

The car crashed into a telephone pole in front of a home daycare as they attempted to flee on foot. Police recovered the gun, and both suspects were arrested in the rear yard of the daycare.

Maupin was convicted of robbery, criminal possession of a weapon and unlawful fleeing of a police officer in April 2026.

The gas station robbery was not his first encounter with the law. In 2013, he was sentenced to three years in prison for attempted criminal possession of a weapon.

He was also convicted of the same offense in 2019 and sentenced to five years in prison. Prosecutors say he has since been deemed a “persistent violent felony offender”.

“This defendant, with two prior weapons convictions, was not deterred by parole from arming himself and robbing a gas station at gunpoint,” said District Attorney Ray Tierney. “The people of Suffolk County deserve to be protected from repeat violent offenders such as this defendant, who was unfortunately on parole at the time of this crime instead of remaining in prison to complete his sentence.”
