A retired Hopewell Township police lieutenant has been indicted on charges alleging he sexually assaulted a 13-year-old girl after providing her with alcohol at his Kingwood Township residence, according to prosecutors and court records reviewed by News 12 New Jersey.

Christopher H. Kascik, 53, of Kingwood Township, was indicted by a Hunterdon County grand jury on Sept. 17 on one count of sexual assault, one count of endangering the welfare of a child involving sexual conduct, one count of endangering the welfare of a child involving abuse, and two counts of criminal sexual contact, according to the Morris County Prosecutor's Office.

Prosecutors allege Kascik provided alcoholic beverages to the girl at his Kingwood Township residence on March 29, 2025, causing her to become intoxicated, and then sexually assaulted her while she was intoxicated.

Kascik spent 25 years with the Hopewell Township Police Department in Mercer County, according to township records. He was appointed as a police dispatcher in February 1994 and became a patrolman in 1996. He was promoted to sergeant in 2011 and lieutenant in 2014 before retiring effective Feb. 1, 2019.

At the time of his arrest, Kascik was a non-sworn civilian receptionist with the Hunterdon County Sheriff's Office. Hunterdon County Sheriff Frederick Brown told News 12 that Kascik was hired as a receptionist on Feb. 5, 2024, and resigned April 23, 2025, following his arrest.

Kascik was initially charged in April 2025 with one count of endangering the welfare of a child. New Jersey Judiciary records reviewed by News 12 show he was subsequently indicted in October 2025 on one count of child endangerment. That indictment was superseded Sept. 17 by the current five-count indictment.

News 12 asked the Morris County Prosecutor's Office what changed in the investigation or prosecution between the initial charge and the superseding indictment. A spokesperson said the office cannot comment on grand jury proceedings.

The Morris County Prosecutor's Office was designated to prosecute the case in Hunterdon County Superior Court. Its Sex Crimes/Child Endangerment Unit and New Jersey State Police investigated the case.

New Jersey Judiciary records identify Clifford D. Bidlingmaier III as Kascik's defense attorney. News 12 has reached out to Bidlingmaier for comment.
