Rethink Food is a sustainable community kitchen that provides about 20,000 free meals per week to food insecure New Yorkers.  On Tuesday, Rethink Food got a big boost from the government.
Rep. Dan Goldman presented Rethink Food with a $175,000 check that will fund two additional sprinter vans to further operations.  Rethink Food says these vans will save it $100,00 per year, which will allow it to serve up to 30,000 additional meals per year. Rethink creates meals from excess food that would typically go to waste.
“Food rescue is the most efficient way, most cost-effective way to make sure every New Yorker gets fed,” Goldman said.
Rethink plans to continue to expand its operations.  Its next goal is to create better tasting and culturally celebrated food for homeless shelters.
