Starting college is exciting, but it can also be expensive. To help ease that burden, Project Move In is giving nearly 100 NYCHA students a head start by providing them with the essentials they'll need before moving into dorms or off-campus housing.

The annual initiative brings together NYC Service, NYCHA, the Public Housing Community Fund, Lyft and the New York Yankees to support students as they begin this new chapter.

Each student received a package filled with dorm necessities, including a laptop, bedding, towels, portable chargers and other everyday items. The Yankees also gifted students tickets to a future game, while Lyft provided rideshare credits to help them get to and from the event.

Organizers say the goal is to remove some of the financial stress that comes with starting college, allowing students to focus on their education.

For many of the students, including those who are the first in their families to attend college, the event was about more than supplies—it was a reminder that they have a community supporting them as they take this next step.
