New York residents shocked by a fatal stabbing inside a local deli. News's Julia Burns has more on how the community is responding tonight. People embracing one another on Friday after a stabbing inside a local deli left one man dead. Police have identified the man who died as 33-year-old Diego Santoval Nava. Workers tell us he was an employee there and also was a father. You know, now his kids are going to go out without a father for somebody that couldn't fight him and hurt him. He took his life for Police say it happened just after 3 Friday afternoon at the deli on Hegeman Avenue when a man went inside screaming, only to leave, come back, go behind the counter, and stab Diego multiple times. We're told Diego later died at the hospital today. The deli is. And candles sit outside. Lots of residents coming by today, stopping at this deli. I spoke with one who says he comes here every morning and saw Diego every single day, you know, every morning bigger than your cheese roll, double bacon, salt, peppers. It's the same thing, and he knows he knows my order, so. Yeah, to hear that this happened really, really, really hurts me. Residents tell me they want to see something done before another tragedy happens. What cops and watch these guys that be out here arguing and looking for trouble. Police say they're searching for a male suspect and that no arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing in East New York. Julia Burns, News Brooklyn.

Meanwhile, a deadly stabbing inside of a deli is rocking the East New York community tonight. Police say the attacker left the store screaming before he came back, hopped the counter, and stabbed an employee multiple times. News Twelve's Julia Byrnes there now with how neighbors are reacting. A local deli turned into a crime scene after police say a 30 three-year-old man died after being stabbed multiple times in the stomach. That man has since been identified as Diego Sandoval Nava. Workers at the deli still trying to process the tragedy. I was scared. I was like how could that happen? We don't have that much trouble in the store. Like this is the first time. with our family. Workers tell us that man who died is an employee here at the deli and also a father. Police say it all unfolded just after 3 in the afternoon here on Hegeman Avenue. That deli is still closed off behind me right now. Lots of residents stopping their walk to see this crime scene. We spoke with one who says this is not something you often. See here I pass it every time I go to the laundromat or to the grocery store, so for there to be some sort of a crime or something to render somebody injured or you know, dead, it's kind of crazy. Public safety organizations also on scene providing support to residents, saying the community is in disbelief, especially being that the victim has passed away, so that is something that has been hurtful to people. This coming because a lot of people just actually was in the store and the gentleman just made some sandwiches for several people, so it was just like really a shock to them, a heartbreak like a community store. People are familiar with the store and a lot of people were surprised. Police say they're searching for a male suspect and at this time no arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing in East New York. Julia Burns, News Brooklyn.
