A Deer Park roadway reopened after a multivehicle crash forced a shutdown on Saturday afternoon.
Detectives say the crash happened just after 3 p.m. near the intersection of Deer Park Avenue and Grand Boulevard.
Police had not said how many people were hurt, what their conditions were or how many cars were involved as of Saturday night.
Michelle Restaino, of North Babylon, told News 12 she was involved in the crash. She said she was rear ended on Deer Park Avenue near the Olympic Diner. She says the driver that hit her kept going.
The site of the major crash is about half a mile down the road from the diner at the intersection of Grand Boulevard.
"We got slammed from behind, and after that, he went around us, over the divider, and was going north in the southbound lanes," she said. "He just looked like he was driving straight, he never looked, he never stopped."
Turan Dilmen said he witnessed the crash.
"I was watching, pumping the gas. He didn't even touch the brake," he said.
People in the area told News 12 drivers often speed on Deer Park Avenue and crashes have happened, but nothing like what happened on Saturday.
