A dozen students rushed to the hospital. The district says the kids got sick after taking THC laced gummies. Now they're trying to figure out how they got into the hands of these students in the first place. News Twelve's Carmen Grant is outside William Floyd Middle School right now, and Carmen's parents have to be upset. Yeah, Joe, parents we spoke with were visibly upset. School officials tell me a hold in place was initiated. Officials say 11 students had to be rushed to the hospital after taking marijuana gummies. We worry every day about it. It's scary. That's the reaction from parents after school officials confirmed 12 students from William Floyd Middle School became sick after eating gummies laced with THC. I've never dealt with it. I mean, like I said, in high school, I'm sure we all had our fair share of things going around, but. Middle school. Police say 11 of the 12 young teen students were transported to local hospitals. According to a statement released by the school district, a student handed out the marijuana edibles to 12 other students in the building. Some parents are wondering if the kids knew what they were taking. Some of these kids have never experienced and their friends aren't truthful to them either, and tell them to try this, and before you know it, we're in a situation where people are sick. Local advocates say the issue of minors getting their hands on marijuana and THC products has become a growing problem across Long Island. They say the colorful packaging are targeting minors. This is contributing to the wide distribution and accessibility and the ingestion rates of adolescents and. People clearly under 21 having access uh to THC and marijuana products. Meanwhile, a middle school isn't saying what area of the school the students were able to consume the THC laced gummies. It has left parents asking how this could happen. They should do really um to secure more and to really I mean wash the kids never never happened in the past. Now Suffolk police tell me no criminal charges have been filed in the case as of now.
