A dating app meetup ended in violence Sunday night when police say a man was repeatedly stabbed inside a Middletown apartment - and the host is now facing an attempted murder charge.
According to the Middletown Police Department, officers were called to the Sutton Hill Apartments on Underhill Road around 7:05 p.m. after receiving multiple complaints about noise and a possible fight in progress.
Responding officers were directed to Apartment L, where they heard sounds of a struggle. Once inside, police say they discovered two people covered in blood and suffering from multiple stab wounds.
Investigators say 28-year-old Reggie Florence, who lives in the apartment, had invited the victim over after connecting on a dating app. During the encounter, Florence allegedly pulled a knife and stabbed the victim several times in the back, neck, face and abdomen. A struggle over the weapon followed, resulting in injuries to both individuals.
Both were taken to Garnet Health Medical Center. Police say the victim, who traveled from Nassau County, suffered life-threatening injuries, including a collapsed lung and deep facial lacerations expected to result in the loss of the right eye. The victim was later transferred to Westchester Medical Center for surgery and advanced trauma care.
Their identity has not been released.
Police say Florence’s injuries were not considered life-threatening and that he was treated, released and arrested.
Florence is now awaiting arraignment on charges of attempted murder and assault.
Viewer video shared with News 12 shows the suspect in handcuffs with visible arm and chest wounds, and the victim on a stretcher being loaded into an ambulance outside the complex.
The case remains under investigation by the Middletown Police Department.
