Stamford police released traffic-cam photos showing what appears to be a silver Honda Accord, which they say fatally struck a 13-year-old boy Saturday night.
Police say it happened outside 316 Courtland Ave. Police say the car struck the teen, who had been riding a minibike and was accompanied by a family member who had been riding a scooter.
Police say the pair had pulled over at the base of an overpass when the driver struck the boy and sped away from the scene. They say the car has significant damage to the front passenger side and is missing part of the front bumper.
Anyone who can help is asked to contact Stamford police.
"It's so sad and tragic and heartbreaking – and the driver of the car needs to come forward and do the right thing, and turn themselves in," said Susan Flynn Carnes, who lives around the corner and bought flowers to the scene of the crash. "I didn't know the boy, but I can only imagine the pain his family is going through, and I just wanted to show my respect and sympathy.”
Anyone with information or who witnessed the crash is being asked to contact the department's collision analysis and reconstruction squad at 203-977-4712.
