A 19-year-old Paterson man was arrested and two teenage boys were cited last week after police stopped a stolen SUV traveling without headlights in Clifton, authorities said.
Police say that at about 3:15 a.m. Feb. 17, patrols near Lakeview Avenue and Alyea Terrace spotted a 2020 Kia without headlights.
After the vehicle was pulled over, two passengers wearing ski masks jumped out and fled on foot, police said.
Police say the driver, identified as Kasan Harmon, stayed in the vehicle and complied with officers. Police said a rear window was shattered and the steering column and ignition had been tampered with.
A preliminary investigation determined the SUV had been reported stolen in Passaic, officials said.
Harmon was arrested and charged with receiving a stolen motor vehicle. He was turned over to the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office Corrections Hub pending a court appearance.
The Passaic County Sheriff’s Office deployed two K-9 units, a drone and patrol officers.
About half an hour after the stop, a law enforcement drone located two individuals hiding in a backyard on East Clifton Avenue, police said.
The boys, both 15 and from Paterson, were detained and issued juvenile complaints for receiving a stolen motor vehicle and resisting arrest by flight. They were released to their parents, according to police.
