A man is in custody after a 65-year-old woman was randomly pushed onto the train tracks in Van Nest.

Police say the incident happened on the 5 train platform at the East 180th Subway Station at around 1:40 p.m. on Thursday.

A 65-year-old woman was standing on the platform when a man approached her from behind and pushed her onto the roadbed.

Officers helped the woman back onto the platform. She was transported to St Barnabas Hospital where she is expected to be OK.

Police took a person of interest into custody at the scene, but no official arrest has been made.
