A Suffolk County police officer is recovering this morning after his patrol car was struck by an alleged drunk driver in Copiague last night.
Suffolk County police said Officer Jordan Tozitsky, 32, was driving westbound on Montauk Highway when Julio Zelaya, 39, attempted to make a left turn onto Hawkins Boulevard in front of the patrol car, causing the vehicles to collide around 9:45 p.m. yesterday.
Zelaya, of Copiague, was taken to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Officer Tozisky, who lives in West Babylon, was taken to the same hospital with non-life-threatening injuries as well.
Suffolk County police charged Zelaya with felony driving while intoxicated because he has a previous drunk driving conviction on his record within the last 10 years.
He's scheduled to be arraigned at a later date.
