Driving in Morris County is going to be easier sooner than promised.
All westbound lanes on Interstate 80 are expected to reopen this weekend, 11 days ahead of schedule, but it comes with a compromise.
The NJDOT announced some temporary overnight closures to remove the construction barrier and repave the left lane and part of the median.
One of two westbound lanes will be closed before exit 34B Jefferson/Sparta overnight, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m.
Then Friday night, all I-80 westbound lanes in Wharton will be closed for final paving and restriping to allow all lanes to reopen Saturday, weather permitting.
Drivers, businesses and residents have been dealing with months of delays and closures following multiple discoveries of sinkholes and voids along I-80 since the end of December.
Two Westbound lanes reopened less than two weeks ago and two eastbound lanes reopened about three weeks ago.
This section of I-80 in both directions is still considered an active work zone. Drivers are advised to slow down.
The NJDOT expects all eastbound lanes to reopen by June 25.
