Mayor Eric Adams and NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch says major crimes were down across NYC in 2024, but a closer look at the numbers in the Bronx tells a different story.

While murders and robberies saw drops in the borough that mirror the citywide trend between 2023 and 2024, transit crime, shootings and shooting victims were all on the rise, alongside rapes and felony assaults.

In the Bronx's 46th Precinct, almost all major crimes saw jumps in 2024.

The area, which covers the Fordham, University Heights, Morris Heights and Mount Hope neighborhoods, saw murders more than double - along with 65 shooting victims.

Those numbers appear in stark contrast to the message coming from the mayor.

"We reduced homicides and shootings for the third straight year," said Mayor Adams during a press conference Tuesday. "They're down double digits in both categories since we took office."

The 46th Precinct is participating in the mayor's 'Every Block Counts' initiative, which aims to bring more officers and access to city resources to the areas with the most crime, in an effort to drive down those numbers.
