A main gas leak early Thursday led to evacuations and a school delay in Union County.
PSE&G crews were out at the intersection of Morris and Summit avenues in Summit, making repairs. The fire department evacuated about 20 homes as a precaution.
A resident told News 12 that he was evacuated around 4 a.m.
“By like 5:30 a.m. / 6 a.m., they were digging holes in the road to release the pressure. They had to come in the house, they had these little gas meters to check to see the levels,” said resident Jeff Massey.
Some roads in the area were temporarily closed for a time but have since reopened.
Nearby Lawton Middle School had a two-hour delay because of the leak.
The cause was not immediately known.
