The NYPD has released a photo of the man wanted in connection with the shooting at the West Indian American Day Parade, which left one person dead and four others injured. The development comes more than two weeks after the shooting.

The incident occurred on Labor Day as tens of thousands gathered along Eastern Parkway. Police say the shooter hopped a barricade and opened fire, striking five individuals. One of the victims, 25-year-old Denzel Chan, died the following day due to his injuries.

The release of the suspect’s photo follows growing pressure from local leaders advocating for reform in the wake of the shooting. The photo was made public shortly after Mayor Eric Adams met with local politicians and parade organizers to discuss safety measures for the annual event.

In a response to the violence, state Senator Zellnor Myrie introduced two bills on Wednesday aimed at addressing gun violence. One bill seeks to expand the state’s legal definition of a “mass shooting,” while the other proposes the establishment of a State Office of Gun Violence Prevention.

The efforts come after Myrie and a group of Brooklyn politicians sent a letter to City Hall, urging for more resources to ensure safety in Central Brooklyn.
