A deadly shooting in Mount Hope has left a neighborhood calling for more patrols.
According to the NYPD, a man was shot in the torso around 7:30 a.m. Thursday near East 175th Street and Monroe Avenue. He was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
In a shocking twist, what appears to be a rifle and a scope was found abandoned in the middle of the intersection, leaving residents horrified.
“I’m surprised when I see something like that in the street—a gun like that. It’s crazy, it’s crazy,” said Tony Dominguez, who has lived in the area for 10 years.
The police presence in the neighborhood was overwhelming, as crime scene investigators scoured the area for clues and temporarily shut down streets.
Toni Smith, another neighbor, expressed frustration, saying crime and drug activity have become all too common in the area.
“There’s a lot of crime going on in this block between that block and this block from Clay to Weeks because the boys sell drugs over there as well,” she said. “Adams needs to get his boys here.”
Authorities are now searching for the suspect, who was last seen wearing dark clothing and a ski mask. Police say he fled the scene toward East 176th Street.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the NYPD Crime Stoppers tip line at 1800-577 TIPS.
