A dog was fatally shot after attacking an officer responding to a domestic violence incident Friday night in Sheepshead Bay, according to police.

Authorities say a 911 call reported that a 34-year-old man assaulted a 31-year-old woman. That call led them to Ocean Avenue just after 10 p.m.

While arresting the man, police say the dog bit an officer’s thigh. She then opened fire and fatally struck the animal.

The 31-year-old victim and both officers involved in the arrest are expected to be OK.
