The New York City Department of Transportation has launched 'Regional Slow Zones' throughout the city - including Dumbo - to make areas safer. The DOT says there has been 10 severe injuries and one traffic fatality in the past five years in Dumbo. The speed limit will drop from 25 mph to 20 mph by the end of the year to help stop the incidents. Dahlia Goldenberg, associate director of Families for Safe Streets, says it will save lives. "The science tells us the research shows us that the 5-mph difference is often the difference between surviving the crash and getting killed," said Goldenberg. The DOT says by the end of the year, 250 locations throughout the city will have lowered speed limits.
