The demonstrations in Newark come amid allegations of abuse involving detainees inside the detention center.
Several New Jersey Democratic members of Congress toured the facility Thursday and called for Delaney Hall to be shut down.
Meanwhile, Department of Homeland Security Secretary MarkWayne Mullin said in a post on X that New Jersey health officials inspected the facility’s food service area. He added that outside agencies regularly audit ICE detention centers and that they comply with national standards.
