New Rochelle police officials say 25-year-old Marcos Veloz of New York City is accused of breaking into two New Rochelle businesses.
Officers responded to a commercial burglary alarm at a money transfer and payment center at 212 North Ave. just before 5 am Saturday morning.
When police arrived, they found the front window had been shattered with a rock. Investigators say they were able to quickly develop leads and locate a suspect.
According to police, Veloz was carrying a pry bar, hatchet, and mallet when officers found him. Investigators say the tools were consistent with the method of breaking in at the store.
Veloz was taken into custody, and as detectives continued investigating, they say they realized the North Avenue burglary had close similarities to a break in at another business on Main Street that occurred three days earlier.
Eventually police were able to connect the two incidents and Veloz was charged with both burglaries.
Marcos Veloz is now facing several charges including two felony counts of burglary.
