New FAA interim order in effect at Newark Airport ahead of Memorial Day holiday travel

The FAA says 28 arrivals and 28 departures will be allowed per hour until runway construction is complete, which is slated to end on June 15. But will continue on Saturdays until the end of the year.

Ahead of a busy summer travel season, the FAA is announcing an interim order to limit the number of flights in out of Newark Liberty International Airport.
The FAA says 28 arrivals and 28 departures will be allowed per hour until runway construction is complete, which is slated to end on June 15. But will continue on Saturdays until the end of the year.
Outside of this construction period, 34 arrivals and departures will be allowed per hour until Oct. 25.

The cut comes ahead of the summer travel season.
Memorial Day Holiday Weekend travel period starts on Thursday through Monday.
AAA expects over 1 million New Jerseyans will travel.
And over 73,000 by an airplane, which is just a slight increase from last year.
"I heard there were some issues with Newark airport and I knew possible delays and cancellations but took the risk anyway and hope for the best," said Bhavidn Papaiya of Edgewater.
