The MTA is holding a public open house tonight in Canarsie to discuss the proposed Interborough Express (IBX), a 14-mile transit project aimed at improving connections between Brooklyn and Queens.

The meeting will take place at South Shore High School from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., giving residents a chance to learn more about the project, ask questions, and share their thoughts.

The IBX would run from Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, to Jackson Heights, Queens, linking 17 subway lines, multiple bus routes, and the Long Island Rail Road.

The goal is to significantly cut travel times between the two boroughs, reducing the need for commuters to go through Manhattan.

MTA chair and CEO Janno Lieber says the project is about more than just convenience.

"The 5 million people who live in Brooklyn and Queens have to go to Manhattan on the subway to reach the other borough—makes no sense," Lieber said.
