The MTA is continuing its community outreach for the Interborough Express (IBX) — a major transit project aimed at improving travel between Brooklyn and Queens.
On Tuesday evening, the agency is holding its third open house at Maimonides Medical Center in Borough Park from 6 to 8 p.m. The goal of the meeting is to share updates, gather feedback, and answer questions about the proposed 14-mile rail line.
The Interborough Express would run from Bay Ridge to Jackson Heights, connecting to 17 subway lines, over 50 bus routes, and the Long Island Rail Road at East New York. Officials say the new service could significantly cut commute times — with end-to-end trips expected to take around 40 minutes.
Roughly 900,000 people live along the proposed route, and the MTA estimates that about 115,000 riders could use the line each weekday once completed.
Construction depends on approval and funding in the MTA’s 2025–2029 Capital Plan. Until then, the agency says public input is a key part of shaping the future of the IBX.
Additional open houses are planned this spring, including one in Jackson Heights on May 8.
