Milford held its first pumpkin smash Saturday at Eisenhower Park.
City officials say they wanted to find a better way to manage pumpkin waste following Halloween.
Once people smash their pumpkins in a smash zone, they will be collected by Milford Public Works and turned into compost.
Officials say it’s awesome to see the community participate.
"It's our first year, so we weren't sure about the turnout, but we've had a great showing so far. The kids seem to love it, even the adults love it. Its been a great day all the way around," says Rob Harrigan, solid waste foreman for Milford.
Anyone who missed the event can drop off their pumpkins at the Milford transfer station on Oronoque Road to be composted.
