        Middletown man killed in police-involved shooting in Sullivan County

        A police-involved shooting in Sullivan County left a Middletown man dead, according to officials.
        State police say they were involved in a vehicle pursuit in the town of Thompson around 2:20 a.m. Tuesday.
        Albert Melendez, 32, was attempting to turn his car around at the intersection of Rock Hill Drive and Emerald Place when a state trooper ordered him to stop the car.
        Melendez continued to drive and hit the trooper, who fired his weapon and hit Melendez.
        Troopers provided emergency medical care to Melendez who later died at Garnet Health Medical Center.
        The officer was treated for minor injuries.
        Tuesday morning's incident is being investigated by the state Attorney General's Office.
