A Connecticut state representative was charged with larceny after she allegedly stole her opponent's campaign signs.
The campaign for Republican candidate Darrell Harris told police that campaign signs were stolen from the area of Route 59 and Judd Road.
Police used an AirTag tracker to locate the stolen signs at a property owned by Democrat Anne Hughes.
Hughes, the incumbent, is facing off against Harris in the race for State House District 135.
News 12 reached out to Hughes for comment. Her statement is below:
"Yesterday, I removed lawn signs that should not have been on public property. I apologize for removing them rather than contacting police or my opponent's campaign to have them removed, and I take full responsibility for my actions.
"Campaigns should be about issues and differences in ideas, not yard signs. I apologize for the distraction and remain committed to having civil discourse with my opponent throughout the remainder of this campaign season."
