The owner of a Middlesex County daycare is facing charges, accused of giving two children sleep supplements without permission.
Cheryl Ambicki, 57, owns Precious Gifts Childcare in Dunellen. According to the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, Ambicki has been charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, accused of giving them melatonin.
Melatonin is available over the counter as a sleep supplement.
The prosecutor’s office says Ambicki gave a 2-year-old and a 4-year-old melatonin without parental consent. This was first reported to authorities on Friday. Police confirmed this information and arrested Ambicki - who lives in Middlesex Borough - later that day.
The daycare was founded in 2004. On its website, it says it took in infants to 5-year-olds. The building is also an Episcopal church.
The prosecutor’s office says the investigation is ongoing.
