Mayor Adams and NYPD Interim Police Commissioner Tom Donlon announced the "Drone as First Responder" program in parts of the Bronx, Central Park and three precincts in Brooklyn.
The mayor says key goals of the DFR program are to increase response time, assist in searches for missing people and deliver vital first aid equipment prior to first responders' arrival.
A total of 109 drones will be in use with the 60 NYPD officers on the DFR team.
Adams also says the usage of drones could make the difference in a life-or-death situation.
