The Maritime Rowing Club of Norwalk is celebrating a national championship after a standout performance in Florida.
The club's Women's Youth U16 Coxed Quad team won gold at the Youth National Championships in Sarasota.
The team also earned a bronze medal in the Men's Under 17 Quad division.
Norwalk Mayor Harry Rilling honored the club with a proclamation, saying, "Congratulations to all of you. You must be very, very proud!"
"It takes a whole village," said Roman Vengerovskiy, directorof rowing and operations. "We work very hard as coaches and as athletes year-round in order to give these athletes the opportunity to go to the national stage and to do the best that they can."
This marks the club's 22nd national title in its 29-year history and its first win in the Women's U16 Coxed Quad event.
