Brooklyn now has its first fantasy-romance bookstore, and it’s turning pages into a community experience.

Love and Legends Books, which started as a pop-up shop earlier this year, officially opens Saturday, Nov. 22, in Prospect Heights. Offering readers a chance to dive into fantasy, romance and sci-fi novels, the bookstore will also explore tabletop role-playing games like Dungeons & Dragons through community-centered programs. “The very first day, we almost sold out entirely of books. Every single person came up to us and asked, ‘Where is your bookstore? Are you opening a bookstore? Where’s it gonna be?’” said Savanna Sturkie, co-owner of Love and Legends Books, about the first pop-up. The store isn’t just for adult readers. Younger bookworms can visit the whimsical kids’ corner, a space designed for families and story time events. “We’re so passionate about our kids section and being here for the kids in the neighborhood to explore reading for the first time with dragons and adventures and swords,” Sturkie said. Love and Legends Books also plans to host Brooklyn-based authors, along with giveaways and raffles during the store’s grand opening from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. For those who might find tabletop gaming intimidating, the staff encourages everyone to give it a try. “We know it can be intimidating, but it’s an amazing way to use your imagination and learn problem-solving and creativity skills,” Sturkie said. The co-owners’ enthusiasm is contagious, inviting customers to linger, browse and share their love of stories. “We are all extremely passionate about these genres, so come in, talk to us, and we’ll give you as many recommendations as you can handle,” Sturkie said. Local neighbors are equally excited about having a community-centered bookstore. “Bookstores are always such a special place. I spent my entire childhood browsing in the aisles. I look forward to the next generation doing that too,” said Kirsten Cole, a resident. Sturkie tells News 12 that Love and Legends Books is more than just a store — it’s a place where imagination comes to life, where dragons, love stories and epic adventures await readers of all ages.
