Welcome back. A nor'easter targeting the Jersey Shore this weekend. Flooding, high surf, beach erosion, strong winds all expected. Stormwatch team meteorologist Mike Rizzo will have your forecast in just a few. And the winds already howling and the water is starting to rise. Officials warning the worst is still ahead for parts of the shore. Our Jim Murdock is right along the Route 72 Causeway this afternoon, right on the Barnica Bay between Long Beach Island and the mainland. Jim, I, I mean really the water behind you looks pretty intense. Yeah, it's pretty crazy out here Eric, you can see what the wind's doing to my jacket. I'm doing my best uh stay puffed marshmallow man impression standing out here, but if Chris, if you can pan off to the right, you can see just how angry the Barneca Bay is this morning, uh, and now into the afternoon. Winds right now, uh, mostly out of the north northeast and what that means. Taking the bay and pushing it south southwest, so any water that gets in from the ocean through the inlets will be pushed toward those vulnerable low lying communities on the mainland like Tuckerton Beach, Mystic Islands, Ware Town, and Stafford Township. Now take a look at this video as we start in the Beach Haven West section of Stafford Township where water from the bay is now. Coming up and out of those storm drains and as you watch folks here filling up sandbags, this is along Jennifer Lane, one of the lowest lying roads in this neighborhood. A homeowner tells us they were here through Sandy here through last October's nor'easter, and their biggest complaint is from folks plowing through flooded streets. Slow down. They should all be no wake zones. When cars fly past our house, it creates a huge wake and just pushes all the water onto our property, and that's what happens. It gets into the garage. Over on Long Beach Island as expected, it's slow going. Road closures along the boulevard will make it difficult to get south from the causeway to areas like Beach Haven. During this morning's high tide we saw nuisance flooding, but as we've been saying, the worst tides expected to come tonight and especially tomorrow. So let's come back live right now. These 1 to 2 ft waves are being pushed by winds gusting over 40 MPH as we're now in the splash zone, like standing next to the log. a great adventure watching these waves, uh, kind of barrel up against the bulkheads here. There is some damage. We've seen some, uh, some lumber getting torn from its moorings, and again those winds only expected to ramp up in these open sections when you have a direct line into the wind. These wind gusts could top or approach 60 MPH as we head into tomorrow. That's the latest here. We're live on the causeway between the mainland and LBI in Ocean County. This afternoon we're going to get up to about 75, but we're already in the mid-60s and the rain is just offshore. You can see the spin to our low pressure center right there. That's our nor'easter coming together. The track should kind of loop around just off of the coast of New Jersey, which is why it lasts all weekend long. More details coming up. All right, Mike, thanks a lot. And as this nor'easter turns offshore, conditions are becoming increasingly dangerous right along the coast. Coastal flooding, uh, advisories and warnings remain in effect. Forecasters warning multiple rounds of high tide flooding through the weekend. And News 12 New Jersey's Lauren Dhu is in Bay Head for us, uh, taking a look at the conditions out there this afternoon. Hey, Lauren. Hey Eric, yes, these are where the absolute worst conditions are going to be on the beach. We are getting sandblasted right now. Eric, I'm not even going to turn around and face the north because it is way too painful, but I want to show you the impact that we're already feeling here in Bay Head. Look at this. This is some beach erosion that's going on up to my shoulders, so that's about 4 ft cliffs that we have here at the bottom of Howe Street. This is an absolute gust of wind coming right now with a lot of sand. Also look at these jetties. That are over here too talking to some locals and they say that these jetties are completely covered with sand during the summer. Now they're totally exposed. You can see all the rocks there, so just some more signs of some beach erosion that we have going on here in Baja. Look at these waves though. They're not as intense during low tide. That's why we're able to stand on the beach right now, by the way, because we're in low tide, but they're still pretty massive out here, OK, and they're breaking at about 12. waves. They had police letting residents know that beach erosion will be extreme. It is this persistent northeast wind that really damages the shoreline, and you know what? It's been a week of those winds in anticipation of this nor'easter. You also have coastal flooding that's going to be a concern on the Back Bay streets and the flood prone areas. But for now it is a windy, chilly fall day for people at the shore here, but they're paying attention to the weather. One way it's beautiful because you know Mother Nature, but the nor'easters too consistent. It's brutal. I come up here every morning and I use the jetty as a reference, and it seems like each day, you know, 1.5 more of the beach is gone. And now yesterday this cliff wasn't here. That's like a 4 ft drop. It's crazy. Yes, here comes another gust of wind getting absolutely blasted with sand right now. Tomorrow is the day that we're really expecting the heavy rain, the flooding, the wind, so certainly that's all going to be a possibility and power outages as well. But locals say they're ready for it, getting sandblasted here in Bay Head, Lauren, News 12, New Jersey.

Down at the beaches, here's the wind gust forecast. Looking at them coming in near 30 to 35 today. LBI will see the strongest winds with this particular storm, upwards to about 55 to maybe near 60 MPH as we get into the weekend, specifically on Saturday midday. You can see that right there projection near Barnet Light near 60 MPH again. That's just like an outlier. It's not going to be a widespread situation with that, but I do think widespread 40 to 50 MPH expected at the Jersey Shore east of the parkway for Saturday. And Sunday we have 5 alerts in effect for the state. Let me show you what's going on for this weekend. These are the things you need to pay attention to coastal flood warning, high surf advisory, high wind warning for the coast, wind advisory inland, and a rip current statement as well. Well, you shouldn't be swimming in this anyway. We got temperatures right now 58, 75 this afternoon with a mostly cloudy sky, generally uneventful except at the coast for today. Let's get outside to the coast. Lauren Du, who's in Bay Head, and there's where the event's taking place. Yes, exactly, Mike. We are showing you where the absolute worst is as far as the wind goes from this fall nor'easter. There is nothing between us and the water, maybe a little bit of sand here. Talking to so many locals this morning and they say there's really not much left of the beach. This is just about at high tide. High tide was at 7 o'clock this morning, so the tide will start to go out from here on out, but there's another high tide cycle that we're going to be watching. I mean it is just those. Powerful waves. You've got 12 ft waves. Watch as they curl and then you got the wind that just sweeps all that spray away and look how just messy all that water is, all that foam that is mixing in there as well. They had police letting residents know that beach erosion is going to be extreme. You can probably hear that northeast wind if I face towards it. My microphone will certainly pick it up, but the beach erosion will be extreme. Already seeing that this morning we're Howe Street, we got those waves that are breaking out there. Coastal flooding happening in the Back Bay streets in those flood prone areas and will be worse going into tomorrow morning with each high tide cycle here in Bay Head. We're really expecting Saturday to be the nasty day with that rain and that wind. Mike telling us those winds could gust over 50 miles an hour or so. So sure there's going to be a high chance for power outages to occur, but locals tell me they're ready for it. The waves are fabulous. Mother Nature is just basically saying, I own this place. Anything that we try to do to Interfere with her Doesn't work. I love mornings like this. We're here, we're here 365 days a year. So there you go. You got the dunes, the jetties, the beach replenishment projects, anything protective, that fencing certainly getting a lot of pressure this morning as that nor'easter continues out here. Winds continue to be blustery as we head into Saturday, Saturday midday, Saturday night, and then again on Sunday where it starts to finally change direction and lower in its intensity as we get into Sunday mid-morning. Here's the weekend alert list coastal flood warning, high surf advisory, high wind warning. The coast wind advisory inland and a rip current statement. Although nobody should be jumping in the water to swim. Today's forecast 57 degrees right now, mostly cloudy across the state, 75 this afternoon with windy weather. Let's head outside of Bay Head with Lauren, who's standing at the beaches. Lauren, I see the surf behind you. What's going on? Yeah, yeah, we are literally at the bottom of the dune here, so we moved up from the top of the dune to the bottom of the dune here just because I want to show you just how powerful the water is and it's already eating away at the beach ramp here. So there's already a sharp cliff right there, right at the ramp, and you could see the intense waves and just how messy and how washed up. It's like a washing machine. This water is look at all that foam now. The way you can see how high the water is coming up. It's coming up to the fences here, so the protection, the fence protection is certainly getting work out, a lot of pressure on the dunes this morning, and again you can see how high these waves are curling in here. They could be up to 12 ft, so pretty crazy looking waves out here, very active here. They had police letting residents know that the beach erosion is going to be. Because Mike said these northeasterly winds, right? Well, people in Bay had really along the Jersey Shore have been dealing with these northeasterly winds for about a week now as this northeaster northeaster develops. Now it's developed and getting closer to New Jersey here. Coastal flooding on the back Bay streets flood prone spots is going to be getting worse going into tomorrow morning with each high tide cycle, and we will check in on those spots. It just takes a little Bit for the water to get through into the rivers into the tidal passages, so we'll continue to keep an eye on that as the morning goes on. But here in Bay Head they are really expecting tomorrow to be the nasty day with the rain and the wind. Even right now though, we don't have the rain, but we are certainly getting hit with all of that wind. You can probably hear it. I'm trying to turn my back towards that wind, so it's not really catching up on the mic here. But winds are an issue. They could be gusting over 50 miles an hour. That could create power outages. Even these seagulls are having a difficult time flying this morning. But you know what? We talked to locals and they say they're ready for it. The waves are fabulous. Mother Nature is just basically saying, I own this place. Anything that we try to do to Interfere with her Doesn't work. I love mornings like this. We're here, we're here 365 days a year. So they have certainly seen their fair shore, uh, fair share of storms at the shore. They say this one is a nor'easter. Let's take it down the shore. Talk about the wind speeds here. If you live east of the parkway, that's from exit 129 south, the Driscoll Bridge in Perth Amboy, the Edison area all the way down south through Monmouth and Ocean Counties. Again, east of the parkway, you will have the strongest winds, better chances for power outages. Yes, this includes Point Pleasant. Yes, this includes brick, uh, Neptune, Asbury Park, Long Branch, Middletown, Red Bank, all the way down toward Seaside Heights, Seaside Park, Bayhead, Mantle Oaking, wind gusts along LBI could be. Upwards to about 58 MPH as we get through the night tonight through Saturday and into Sunday. The system takes a long time to get out of the way. So here's just a general list of the different alerts that we have here across the Garden State coastal flood warning, high surf advisory, wind warnings to the coast, wind advisories inland, and a rip current statement for the shore for obvious reasons. Let's get outside to Lauren Du in Bay Head where she's standing there in front of the sea. What's going on? Yes, you know what, Mike, this is as close to the ocean as you can possibly get while staying safe. So that is why it is incredibly windy out here, not to mention chilly when you factor in all the wind too. Once you get below the dunes into Bay Head, it's a little bit more relaxed, the winds, if you will. OK, it's not as crazy blowing in your face, smacking you head on. These waves though are pretty nuts. Let's show you what they look like. I mean they could be up to. 12 ft and that is already causing some beach erosion. These winds have been persistent out of the northeast ahead of this nor'easter, so it's just been hammering the coastline here. So already seeing that beach erosion. Bay Head police going onto social media to let residents know that beach erosion is going to be extreme. High tide is about an hour from now, so we'll see how high this water comes up. This is Howe Street where we are. Seeing that beach erosion again, these waves could be breaking up to 12 ft as this nor'easter closes in on New Jersey. Coastal flooding in the Back Bay streets, flood prone spots have been occurring and it will only get worse going into tomorrow, which each high tide cycle. Bay Head is expecting Saturday to be a really nasty day with all that heavy rain and wind. These winds, like Mike said, could be over 5058 miles an hour, so there is a high chance of power outages and now. Here comes one of those strong gusts coming at us right now and like I mentioned, there is just nothing between us and the ocean right now, so there is nothing to break up any of these winds. So we're getting that storm head on here. So again, we're keeping our safe distance and we'll keep you updated from Bay Head. Lauren, New, New Jersey. All right, just to start here, Lauren and low lying Mantasquan alerts are out this morning reminding everybody about the storm. Mantasquan often floods during something like this. Crews want to make sure people are taking the right steps to prepare. Check the vehicle status. Find a place for the vehicles. That's going to be a given, especially in the lowest lying streets. The back of the trucks have everything that we need Stokes basket for first aid rescues. We have fire pumps, fire hose. Our firemen are outfitted with SCBAs in case you have to fight a fire. So these are able to get us anywhere we need to. Even minor flooding in Manasquan could lead to damaged cars. Today, high temperatures reached 68 degrees. Out the door, it's 57. Let's get outside to Bayhead right now with Lauren and Lauren do, woo, wind's whipping. Yes, that's kind of the first thing you notice. Mike, let me just say this about the temperature, right, so it's about 60 degrees, but when you factor in this wind, believe it or not, we're already talking about wind chills here. It actually feels like we're in the 40s, so this is our fall nor'easter that we're dealing with, of course. Let me show you what the ocean looks like. We're right on Howe Street. OK, this is in Bay Head and right at the bottom of this ramp here is actually a sharp cliff. OK, so there is a bit of a drop off. But it's just where this ramp is. The other beaches, it looks like it is that gradual sloping, but this is something that we're going to continue to monitor here. Crazy waves out here. You can just see how rough it is. You can see all the wash that's coming up over here. These waves could be breaking up to 12 ft today. They had police letting residents know that conditions are just going to go downhill starting today. Already at the beach there is a persistent northeast wind. You can probably see the. Seagrass just blowing in that direction as well, so beach erosion is going to be extreme here according to police. So we'll take a look at that once this high tide cycle comes in. High tide is about 7 this morning. Once it goes out, we'll see what the damage is left behind. Coastal flooding on the Back Bay streets, the flood prone areas that has been occurring and it's only going to get worse going into tomorrow morning with. High tide cycle. Some rain, as Mike said, is going to be thrown into the mix now. So now you have flooding on top of that, just freshwater flooding from rain that comes down and they had really expecting Saturday to be a nasty day here with heavy rain and wind. These winds could gust up around 50 MPH plus. So of course you're going to be dealing with the flood potential and also power outages as well. But is that wind, when you look into the northeast, that's when the wind hits here. So we'll continue. Keep an eye on things out here in Bay Head. Lauren, News 12, New Jersey. And it's not just Bay Head, of course. Lauren, thank you. Other shore towns are getting ready as well. Yeah, people in Asbury Park are trying to get ahead of it. Take a look at this. Drivers, they're trying to get around all that water. You see the flooded streets right there as the Matasquan Inlet overflowed. Businesses nearby like the Asbury Social, well, they're not taking any chances. It's just the red barriers that we just got online that covers the water from technically going down the ramp. Two layers of protection. So this is 3 ft. If the water gets higher than 3 ft, that's the one that'll protect any water above 3 ft, and it covers the entire doorway. And we're told the floodgate system costs 6 figures, but the owners say that price tag does not compare to the price of potential flood damage. Gotta do what you gotta do as we track this storm.
