Norwalk police said multiple hand grenades were found a few miles away from each other in the city on Monday.
“I can’t imagine one, but two grenades being found?" Justin Lutzker says. "That’s pretty crazy."
The first grenade was found on the side of the road on St. Mary's Lane Monday morning.
Authorities determined it was disabled and not at risk of exploding.
But hours later, police say a live grenade was discovered in the backyard of a home on Wolfpit Avenue.
"It’s really scary to find out because it’s only a few houses down," Cindy Megale says. "That’s not something that you hear every day."
Sgt. Ryan Evarts says the Stamford Police Bomb squad unit helped safely remove the grenade, and a Norwalk Police explosive detection dog found no other devices in the area.
“This is an extremely rare situation," Sgt. Evarts says. "If you see something, say something. Call 911 immediately if you see anything suspicious."
While police say there's no ongoing threat to safety at this time, residents are wondering how the grenades got there and if they are connected.
"I would hope they’re doing fingerprint testing," Lutzker says. "I’m hoping they get to the bottom of it."
