        A flag-raising ceremony was held Wednesday at the Unity Fountain at Yonkers City Hall to commemorate Indian Independence Day, which is celebrated annually on Aug. 15.
        The day marks India's gain of freedom from British colonial rule in 1947.
        At the event, speakers highlighted recent initiatives promoting Indian culture in New York state, including the establishment of Diwali as a state holiday, World Yoga Day celebrations, and the recognition of cricket as a state sport.
        A large crowd attended the vibrant celebration, showcasing Indian culture and traditions.
