On Friday, the Huntington Manor Fire District released a statement from the Board of Fire Commissioners saying it was aware of “recent social media posts concerning individuals identified as [Immigration and Customs Enforcement] agents” parked in the fire department’s headquarters parking lot.
The Huntington Manor Fire Department confirmed the presence of law enforcement in their parking lot Friday, saying they allow public agencies to utilize their parking lot. They went on to say they were not contacted by law enforcement, nor were they involved in any law enforcement activity.
News 12 reached out to ICE and asked if they were in Huntington Station and if any arrests were made. A spokesperson responded:
“U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is executing the President’s mission of identifying and removing criminal aliens and other individuals who have violated our nation’s immigration laws. All aliens in violation of U.S. immigration law may be subject to arrest, detention and, if found removable by final order, removal from the United States, regardless of nationality. ICE New York City is actively investigating immigration crimes throughout the five boroughs, Long Island and the lower Hudson Valley; but due to our operational tempo and the increased interest in our agency, we are unable to research and respond to every rumor or discuss specifics of routine daily operations.”
White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller said on Fox News earlier this week that the administration was setting a goal of 3,000 arrests by ICE each day and that the number could go higher.
“President Trump is going to keep pushing to get that number up higher each and every single day,” said Miller.
Three thousand arrests per day would mark a huge increase in daily arrests from current figures. Between Jan. 20 and May 19 the agency arrested 78,155 people, which translates to an average of 656 arrests per day.
