All lanes on Interstate 287 are now open after the extreme heat caused parts of the highway to buckle on Tuesday.
New Jersey experienced a five-day heat wave, with temperatures reaching the upper 90s and low 100s. The New Jersey Department of Transportation reported buckling on I-287 southbound in Riverdale and Montville.
The DOT says crews worked overnight to repair the damaged roadway joints and all lanes reopened by 11 a.m. Wednesday.
Forecasters say temperatures are expected to cool down to seasonable conditions on Thursday.
