One of the most iconic names in the world, the Harlem Globetrotters, will be coming to Bridgeport's Total Mortgage Arena on Tuesday afternoon, marking their first visit to Bridgeport in about a year.

"When we put this red, white and blue on, we're superheroes, we're somebody's Christmas present," said Lucius “Too Tall” Winston, a player on the Globetrotters. "It might be somebody's first time seeing us, but also it might be somebody's last time seeing us, so whether we're playing in front of 100 people of ten thousand, we're going to make sure we always give the best show possible."

Making this visit extra special is the fact that it is part of the Globetrotter's 100-Year World Tour, celebrating the team's founding in 1926 in Chicago.

Since then, the Globetrotters say they have played in front of 148 million fans in 123 countries, and of course, have never lost a game.

"We want you to forget about everything that's going on in the world," Winston said. "Whether it's the snow, whether you owe the IRS ten thousand dollars, you came to a Globetrotters game to have fun, but you know what, after the game's over, you still have to pay that ten thousand dollars back."

The current roster also includes someone with Connecticut roots - Brandon “Hi Rise” Mitchell, who was born in Hartford.

I tell my mom all the time I get my basketball genetics because I was born in Hartford, you know, UCONN," joked Mitchell, who is 6-foot-eight.

"Definitely when you got a teammate playing in a place where he was born, or where he's from, you want to make sure you get him the basketball because you know he's going to have friends, going to have family there, so we definitely want to make this guy look good, but also, we want to make sure everyone has a great time," said Winston.

Mitchell agreed at the end of the day, he is there for the fans, saying "I'm trying to make you smile, you know, the basketball for me, that comes easy, but the thing I'm most focused on is having a good time."

The game tips off at 2pm, and tickets are still available.

As part of the 100th anniversary tour, there are also special packages where fans can meet the team before and after the game, and even learn some of their tricks.
