January first is right around the corner and all fifty states have made
"First Day Hikes" a new year's tradition since 2012.
The events promote getting outdoors in the winter, and overall well-being.
The hikes — while connecting people with nature — and are a great way to meet other outdoor enthusiasts.
President of the Southbury Land Trust says you can easily find a hike near to you.
Connecticut has "First Day Hikes" in places like Hammonasset,
Kettletown State Park, Sleeping Giant, a lot of the larger parks. And there are all sorts of alternatives. And we really advocate for people to get outside, join a first day hike, and commune with nature.
The
Miller Trail will be one of many included in this year's first day hikes.
They help to ensure the lands are protected for future generations.
