On the eve of the October 7th Hamas attack, dozens gathered for a vigil to remember the lives lost and the hostages still in captivity.
They are also calling on a Muslim Brooklyn councilmember to support her Jewish constituents.
Brooklyn BridgeBuilders Park Slope, the group that organized the vigil, said they delivered a petition signed by more than 500 people to the office of Council Member Shahana Hanif Sunday.
Organizers also delivered a letter that states Jewish community members do not feel supported by Hanif's actions in the wake of the attack.
The letter points out recent antisemitic incidents in the councilmember's district, incidents that the group says Hanif remained silent on.
In a statement to News 12, Hanif said in part that, "I respect the right of protestors to voice their concerns with me and recognize the depth of pain. I will be attending vigils, led and organized by Jewish and Israeli groups, with many of my constituents and fellow New Yorkers on Monday evening to honor the memory of the 1,200 Israelis murdered a year ago, alongside the over 40,000 Palestinians killed in the year since."
The group says they will continue to mourn those killed by terrorism a year ago Monday.
